Ventura's win shows anyone has a chance
Jesse "The Body" Ventura won the Minnesota gubernatorial race on the Reform Party ticket, upsetting Republican Norm Coleman and Democrat Hubert H. Humphrey III in a three way race.
Political scientists are saying that Ventura is the beneficiary of Minnesota's tendency toward iconoclastic populism, but there's nothing to say the same couldn't happen here in Hawai`i.
According to the November 5 Honolulu Advertiser, Ventura, a former Navy SEAL and pro-wrestler, garnered heavily concentrated support from young men.
Granted, a good deal of exposure to the political arena would be necessary before a local celebrity could stand a realistic chance in the gubernatorial race, but there's nothing to say it couldn't happen.
If Hawaii's youth aren't voting because they feel no one represents them, one could definitely say an opportunity exists.
Considering that movie stars like Philippine president Joseph Estrada and former president Ronald Reagan have won their respective nations' highest public office, anything is possible.
