Hawai`i, too, should ban restaurant smoke
Earlier this year California enacted legislation that comprehensively banned smoking in restaurants, bars and nightclubs, much to the dismay of many of their patrons.
Although an unpopular notion to the many pro-tobacco denizens found in local establishments, a smoking ban might create a friendlier environment for visiting Mainland tourists.
Considering the ironic fact that Americans first grew the crop but are now at the forefront of its prohibition, it is time to seriously consider further limitations of public tobacco use.
Although a hazy atmosphere creates a certain character beneficial to places like billiards halls, those who abstain from tobacco use find it difficult to function, especially those who suffer from asthma.
It would also allow for the non-smoking majority to return home without the stench of others' habits in their clothing. For them, it is the equivalent of an intense perfume odor.
