Dress code irrelevant if students plan ahead

Campbell High School has recently decided to expand its "no scanty attire" dress code to include a ban on visible underwear. This would not only prevent boys' shorts from being worn around their thighs, but it wil ban spaghetti straps as well, due to the visibility of girls' brassieres.

This has met with resistance from teens, one of which stated for the Sept. 24 Honolulu Advertiser, "It's really hard for us to find cothes that are not spaghetti straps."

This teenager's mother said she spent over $600 on clothes this summer that are now prohibited due to Campbell's new policy.

Whether Campbell's dress code is appropriate for high school students, spending $600 between two daughters on spaghetti straps and other clothes too "scanty" to hide their undergarments qualifies as excessive.

Although fashion is an important aspect of the back-to-school season, a bit more diversity is needed in buying school clothes.

By having a wider variety of clothing, a person will be better suited for quick changes in weather, as well as lectures in air-conditioned rooms.
