Police acted rightly in nude sunbathing case

Of the six nude sunbathers at the Makaleha Beach Park on Sunday, five were men, of which three were Army officers -- a sergeant, a major, and a colonel.

After being charges with indecent exposure and posting $50 bail, each was released and scheduled for a Nov. 10 hearing.

In the past, police merely patrolled the area and told sunbathers to cover up; this was the first time anyone was arrested.

With continued complaints about such activity from the North Shore community, the police did the right things by the law.

And regarding the presence of three military officers, further action should be considered by the Army.

Not only does the disproportionate number of males suggest the "don't ask, don't tell" policy is not working the say it should, their conduct could be construed as "unbecoming an officer."

Although personnel in leadership positions may not necessarily be held accountable to a higher standard, the officers should consider the effects of their behavior on those under their command.
