Fireworks are fun, but don't belong in school

The availability of fireworks around New Year's Day is turning into a safety hazard for Hawaii's school, which re often vulnerable to juvenile antics that utilize homemade bombs created from the fireworks.

Campbell High School recently experiences this particular phenomenon when such a bomb exploded two weeks ago, sending ten students to the hospital.

Fireworks and high school kids are simply not a good mix. While the police department is taking some measures to find and eliminate such devices, more effort should be put into preventing such occurrences.

Simply pu, there is a time and a place for everything. Fireworks, as fund as they may be in the right setting, should be treated as dangerous weapons when put in an environment such as a school.

Parents, too, should make sure that all fireworks are accounted for, and that their kids understand the danger of manipulating the firepower in fireworks for anything other than they were intended for.

Police and schools should take the danger of fireworks into consideration and start taking measures to reduce the danger before more incidents occur.
