Teletubby's behavior no issue for toddlers

According to The National Liberty Journal, a religious publication edited and published by Jerry Falwell, Teletubby Tinky-Winky is gay.

The journal accuses Tinky-Winky, a character on the popular British children's show, "Teletubbies," of being a gay icon based on his color, accessories, and mannerisms.

Tinky-Winky is purple; the journal claims that this is a gay pride color, in spite of the fact that Barney, Grimace, and several other children's show characters are purple.

In addition, Tinky-Winky has a triangle-shaped antenna on his head, which is also said to be a symbol of gay pride, and carries a bag.

Yet the triangle is merely a simple geometric shape, and many men carry bags of all kinds, from cell phone cases to fanny packs to camera cases.

Considering the marketed audience -- toddlers -- it seems The National Liberty Journal is overreacting. Even if children that young understand what effeminate behavior is, there is no reason why they should lean intolerance of it.
