"Kan" Drive-In should hold on to swap meet

The city Planning Commission is currently discussing the use of the Kamehameha Drive-In as a park. The site is now hosting a local swap meet, which will be shut down should the city its proceed with this plan.

The "Kam" Drive-In swap meet is a very important establishment to many of its vendors and customers alike. It allows local vendors with low capital to start their own business, selling small items without the complications of maintaining a store.

Many of the vendors rely on this swap meet to make ends meet; to remove this opportunity could undermine the livelihood of many local vendors.

While parks are, indeed, a noble endeavor, the general public has largely spoken out against the conversion of this particular plot of land. Parks are built for the benefit of the people; it is bizarre that the city would push so hard to create one that the people don't want.

The city Planning Commission should take Hawaii's local vendors into consideration before taking it upon itself to remove this swap meet.
