I had a student submit an assigment recently, making use of a word I wasn't really expecting to see in an ESL student's writing. Now, I don't want my blog popping up on someone's nasty Google search, so I won't mention it by name, but you can read the paper below and see for yourself. (Click on it for a larger resolution.)
For a frame of reference, the assignment was to write a persuasion paragraph about something they'd change. My student chose to write about mechanical pencils, which in Korea are called "Sharp [shop] pencils."
The student got the word from the dictionary when they looked for "indigo," (in Korean, 남색).
Unfortunately, they got chose the wrong "homograph."
