Another hot day

Oh boy, I definitely didn't look forward to today -- more walking around in sticky, nasty 100° weather. Fortunately, it ended well with us getting an apartment.

We decided today that we weren't going to look at any place that didn't have an elevator. We weren't going to look at any five- or six- story walkups, no matter how nice you say they are. High-rises only.

We debated between a small place that didn't have any kind of living or dining room whatsoever (just a bedroom and a corrider that was served as hallway, kitchen, and laundry room) for 3400RMB and a larger place with actual rooms place (and an immaculate bathroom!), but also had wood floors that had never been cleaned in over five years.

We went with the latter. It's really close to the Zhongshan Gongyuan subway transfer point for lines 2, 3, and 4; my commute is only 30 minutes; it has a Carrefour close by; and there's a KFC almost across the street. Aside from the nasty floor and lack of microwave, it fits what we need. The landlady, a professor of Japanese at nearby China Normal University, even said she'd buy a new refigerator and new air conditioner for our bedroom. Score!

So we pulled out as much money as we could from the closest bank, promised we'd deliver the remaining money for the deposit within the week, and returned to the hotel both triumphant and anxious.

Who's gonna be the one to clean everything? This issue has yet to be decided.
