Today we visited the Tokyo church’s building near Shinjuku and ate dinner at a sushi restaurant.
The land was purchased and the original building contructed in the early 1950s. It was replaced after the government paid $30 million for the parking lot during the height of the 1980s bubble economy (they wanted to expand the road). Because it was designed by a famous Japanese architect, it’s considered some sort of cultural heritage site, and they often get university student tours. Pretty impressive place.
The sushi restaurant was great, and not too expensive (about $25 for the two of us). They had some (comparatively) exotic things, like snow crab claws and king crab miso soup – dishes you can’t find in Honolulu. As our last full day in Tokyo, it was a nice way to end our week.
