Jinmao Tower

Today SY and I went to Jinmao Tower, which at 88 stories is one of the tallest buildings in Shanghai. Because the Grand Hyatt is inside, it boasts the highest-above-ground hotel in the world, as well as highest post office, highest laundry room, and blah blah blah (China's like that).

According to the Lonely Planet guide we picked up a few days ago, there's a cafe on the 87th floor with a view that's just as good as the 88th floor observation deck, so we had decided to go there and save a few kuai. When we got up to the door, though, we found out the 87th floor was closed. It was either 54th floor Grand Hyatt lobby or 88th floor. We went with the 54th floor.

The view was great, though for such a clear day it was surprisingly smoggy when viewed from that high (I guess being on the ground under a blue sky makes smog hard to see). We dished out a hundred renminbi for a pair of drinks (about $12, though we were freaking out that was so expensive) and relaxed a bit.

Enjoy the pictures.
