McDisaster, or almost

Since coming back to Korea in April, I'd have to say the biggest disappointment I've felt was in July, when they closed the McDonald’s closest to the apartment.

Providence provided swift consolation, however, and just a few days later I managed to find the next closest one. Not only that, but this one was even better – it had the same 24-hour service PLUS a drive-through. That's almost unheard-of here.

On top of that, they recently started a new thing called "shaker fries." For an extra 50 cents or so, they’ll upsize the fries and give you a 떡볶이 "Sweet and Spicy" seasoning packet.

Though I wouldn’t consider McDonald’s a particularly good example of "American food," it fits the bill well enough for those periodic and necessary bouts of sweet relief from Korean food.
