This morning we marched about four miles in our full battle gear to this one range and had breakfast. There we had classes in the field about moving casualties by litter, body drag, bear crawl, and fireman's carry.
There I learned that my sternum injury was a bit worse than I thought. When it was my partner's turn to body drag me (it looks like a moving Heimlich maneuver kind of thing), the pressure on my chest hurt a lot, and my nose started to bleed. When I told the DS, he decided to check on the extent of the injury by punching me square in the chest. Even though I was wearing the body armor, this hurt like hell, and it showed. (He apologized for it later.) He recommended that I go on sick call tomorrow morning and get that checked out.
For lunch I had MRE #5 Chicken Breast. It was pretty good; I just wish I'd had enough time to eat it.
I've mentioned before that Georgia is pretty dang hot in the summer, but believe it or not, the Army has a way of categorizing (from 1 to 5) how nasty it is. In fact, my clothes were soaked after the march -- I have never sweat so much in all my life. Today it got into Heat Category 5, so we weren't allowed to march back. In fact, two guys had already gone down. So instead, we were bussed back to the barracks. Yay!
After dinner, we got smoked because two guys left their weapons in the DFAC. That stunk. And this one guy I know is on suicide watch, which bums me out. And I still haven't gotten a letter, so thumbs down.
So today wasn't a great day.
