1st Cav Museum

Fort Hood has three museums, one each for the 1st Cavalry Division, the 4th Infantry Division, and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Division.

Thsi weekend I took my wife's friend's son to the 1st Cavalry Museum on Fort Hood today. They've got some cool stuff, of course: helicopters, a WWII era plane, some artillery, and several historic tanks -- like this Sherman.

They've also got a few "less famous" pieces, like this simple ammunition transport. As you can see, there isn't even a seat to lean back in.

Being a logistics officer, it's these kinds of things I find interesting, though I'm sure it was less impressive to the boy.

There's also a room inside the museum building that's dedicated to the 1st Cav's Medal of Honor recipients. Among them I found my Hero #9, Tibor Rubin. [This photo's full resolution, so you can click on it and read his citation.]
