SRP & mandatory fun

This morning my company pulled me out of driver's training to do the Soldier Readiness Program (SRP).

It was sobering stuff, not just because of the purpose for which I was doing it, but also because it was the location of the November 5th shooting last year.

In case the significance is lost on you, there are now airport-style security checks as you walk in the building.

They tested my blood, gave me some shots, and prescribed some malaria medication. I also goy my "Eagle card," which will is useful as a cash card; the bonus is that you can also transfer money from one card to another. This allows people to buy or sell used stuff to others rather than having to ship everything.

Tomorrow I'll miss out of class again for the battalion's "mandatory fun" day. From what I've heard, it'll be like the tyupical "company picnic." The timing of it's pretty handy -- my parents are in town, and it's always nice to get out of work. I'm just a little conscious about how long I have to be there for -- I'm certain my two month-old can't stay too long, but I don 't think I can leave with her.
