This month I saw "FITW Refund (CZ)" on my Leave and Earnings Statements (LES). I've seen questions about this in discussion groups online; it means "federal income tax withholding refund, combat zone." However, I didn't see anything regarding what it's for.
I think it's related to the leave I took in January. I accrued tax exempt leave while I was in Afghanistan; that's the first type the finance office uses up. I can only assume that it's a sort of refund for the income taxes they withheld.
