Review: Guidebook for the Young Officer
I bought this book as a going away present for the cadet I was hosting. After looking through it for a few moments at the post's Clothing and Sales, I decided to get one for myself.
The book reads like a list of frequently asked questions, but is very short -- only about 100 pages. The table of contents says there are five chapters covering platoon leadership, company leadership, writing OERs, additional references, and "Contributing to the Institution of the U.S. Army," but the last one is just a shameful, two-page plug for AUSA.
As an OCS accession, there was a *lot* I didn't understand about the Army when I came in. This book addresses some of the questions I had. What I should have done, though, is read through that section in the five minutes it would have takenat the store and saved my money for a more comprehensive book.
