Family Care Plan

In my last post, I wrote about some ways you can get kicked out of the Army. If you're a single parent, there's another: failing to have a valid Family Care Plan.

A family care plan is what you would do with your kids in case you had to be deployed. Failing to have such a plan may sound like a rotten way to lose your job, but the Army is very serious about having a world-wide available force.

Similar its bias against overweight soldiers, the Army stresses that soldiers be effective under deployment conditions. If a soldier can't be sure that their family is taken care of, they're not going to be effective.

That applies to me, too. Because of my wife's Exceptional Family Member status, I had to put together a family care plan.

The Army's not for everyone.
