This morning I finished my 5th of 7 events for the GAFPB. In place of the 100m run I did the 1000m sprint, which I finished in 4:03. The maximum time was 4:10.
I was pretty happy about my performance, since that's basically a 6:30 mile pace. Looking back 20 years to when I was 30 pounds lighter and my best mile run was 6:00, I guess it's not too shabby.
Now I just have to tackle the two events that plague my dreams: 1.) Either the long jump or the high jump, and 2.) Either the shotput or the 100m swim. For the first, I'll try for the long jump. It may be 14 ft, but the technique is easier. For the second, I'll train for both and see how things are after a month. Starting tomorrow, I'll start training on plyometrics -- developing explosive strength.
I'm really not looking forward to this.
Class started at 8:30. We began work on a group Concept of Deployment Brief, which we'll present on Thursday. We wrapped things up around 3:30 and will continue tomorrow.
