Wisdom: Korea vs. Texas

Proverb #413 in How Koreans Talk is 한 우물을 파라, "Dig one well." It comes from the idea that you could concentrate your energies on becoming proficient in one task rather than get distracted by many simultaneous pursuits.

I suppose this makes sense in Korea. No matter where you're at, if you keep on digging you'll hit water eventually. However, the same advice does not hold true in Texas, where well-digging is more often about finding oil.

As noted in The Bush Tragedy, Bush 43 spent a lot of time digging dry oil wells early in his career. I'm pretty sure that if he'd kept focused on his first one, he'd have been a great deal less successful in life.
