Detached duty

As part of the big Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise, I’ve been on detached duty from my unit for three weeks now. The first week was fairly easy because it was like in-processing. I got all the required badges and paraphernalia, and that was it.

Since then, my job is basically that I’m a temporary aide. It’s good gig – the majority of my day consists of going around with an enlisted driver to different sites, waiting for a meeting to end, and then driving somewhere else.

I make sure to bring my Kindle so that I can read while waiting, a book in case the Kindle battery dies, and a notebook so I can jot down thoughts about what I read.

It sure beats my regular job.
