Don't trust hockey players to do your math

"You'll miss 100% of the shots you don't take." -- Wayne Gretzky

Forbes magazine contributor Paul B. Brown used this quote to advocate a proactive approach to achieving goals [Source]. Yet he overlooks an important fact -- zero divided by zero does not equal zero.

Steven Wright of the Khan Academy explains why: in mathematical terms, it's undefined. Just as you could argue that 0/0=0, you could also argue that it's 1. After all, any number divided by itself equals 1, right?

So stop looking at the glass like it's 100% empty, Mr. Gretzky, and start thinking positively -- you'll also make 100% of the shots you don't take.

Hooray for procrastination.
