Invading Atropia ... again (CPX #3)
When we came back from Christmas break, we the first thing we did was invade the fictional nation of Atropia. Apparently, it went well -- we won the war in something like a week's time. That was Command Post Exercise #2.
This next week, we get to do the same thing, only we're sending out a "forward command post." And guess who gets to be a part of it? That's right, me. So I've drawn a pup tent, prepared my gear, and stocked up on baby wipes. For the first time since 2009, I get to go camping -- for four days.
In reality, four days would be a ridiculously long period of time for a tactical command post to be forward. Their purpose is really only to maintain visibility on the battlefield while the main command post jumps along the axis of advance. That shouldn't take four days.
Nevertheless, part of the fun of being in my current unit is that we do things to make ourselves look awesome, even if it doesn't make sense.
I'm sure we can fully expect more of the same in the next exercise, Warfighter 2017.
