What I like about my current job

Being a defense contractor is quite different from being active duty in the Army.

First, "buy-in" is optional. I'm not going for a promotion, so I don't necessarily have to work to impress any "senior rater." I do my job, and then I go home. There's none of the "you have to go above and beyond" garbage.

Second, I no longer have to stay until my boss leaves. I come in between 5:00 and 5:30, and leave once I've put in my required eight hours and sent out a daily report. I don't check in with the boss. I don't ask if anyone needs any help with their tasks.

I just get up from my chair, say goodbye to one of the guys I sit next to, and walk out the door.

It's awesome.
