When I was younger, I admit -- I didn't eat very well. I worked in shopping malls, so I always ate at the food courts, and my high metabolism kept me from gaining weight.

Now that I'm older (and heavier) I have to be more conscious of what I eat. So when I come back to the United States and see all the gas station/convenience stores selling empty calorie junk foods, it stand out to me.

Japan had 7-11s all over the place, but you could at least get a sugar-free barley tea; that was nice. Here, though, "monster" drinks dominate, and that's on top of all high fructose corn syrup soft drinks.

When I think of what's wrong with America today, it's this.
