Fairness the question with baseball greats

Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, Micky Mantle, and Mark McGuire. The first three did it without the use of steroids or any other performance-enhancing drug.

McGuire, on the other hand, has earned 53 home runs so far this year while taking creatine and androstenedione, a testosterone-producing pill that is sold over the counter.

Considering the fact the National Football League, the Olympic Committee, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association all have banned its use, Major League Baseball should also.

If there isn't an unfair effect, then banning its use shouldn't affect anyone's game. It would allow for comparisons between past and present players.

Is it fair to make comparisons to Roger Maris when -- through questionable supplements -- after not breaking 50 for nine years, McGuire's home run count shot up to 52 in 1996 and 58 in 1997?

If the NFL, an organization with a much more strenuous training program, has banned the use of androstenedione, then why should baseball allow it?
