New color needed for Campus Center

The Campus Center received its last paint job 10 years ago, and followed the plan the Board of Regents (BOR) decision about how it should look.

Because the BOR has settled on an "ideal" color scheme for every building on campus, that same brown must be used when the building is renovated.

This is folly. Five to seven years from now the building will have the same look as it does now, and will require at least another $350,000 to repaint.

The BOR should change its policy governing how our campus buildings should look.

The best solution would be to have the BOR narrow design proposals for a building down to two or three plans, with the final decision made by student body referendum.

Although this would be tedious and raise administrative costs, the concept of a student-designed campus is original, and would attract nation-wide attention.

The chance to make an easily visible difference would also bring enthusiasm to the voting process, and get students more involved in university affairs.

Although it's probably too late to change the Board's mind about the Campus Center color scheme, it is never too late for a change in BOR policy.
