Voting: You really do make a big difference

From MTV's Rock the Vote to ASUH's voter registration drive, the plan to get young people to the polls keeps moving. Hopefully it will continue.

For years, politicians have ignored college students for the simple fact that students rarely vote. This is shameful.

Who is affected when the university budget shrinks and unemployment rises? The answer is you.

Nearly every decision our senators, representatives and other government leaders make impact everyone in the state. And yet we ignore them until something hits us really close.

When this happens we yell, march, and write angry letters. Unfortunately, by that time it's too late. The damage has been done. And who is responsible? The answer is you.

On Sept. 19 and Nov. 3, some of Hawaii's most powerful will ask for your permission to represent you. Will you give it to them or will you let someone do it for you?

Students are often identified as the leaders of tomorrow, but how can we lead tomorrow if we ignore today?
