Phone book promos continue degradation
Advertisers these days use many sophisticated marketing techniques to attract market share, but none seem as effective as blatantly sexual references.
Even under the "fishing nets" listing in the phone book, one finds pictures of women in lingerie, displayed only because it works best at attracting male customers' attention.
If a company feels their products have nothing worth mentioning in their advertisements, the store shouldn't be promoted at all. The degradation of women for the purposes of monetary gain offends many, and only gives the store a bad image.
Not only that, utilizing women wearing revealing attire as a brainless "rubber stamp" only prevents Hawai`i from moving forward in its role as a progressive state.
If the best line of work for a beautiful woman is the skin trade, what does that say about the kind of education we provide for our daughters? Should we not help them become both beautiful and intelligent?
Our ideas about the tole of women are outdated. It seems ironic that we as a state will consider same-sex marriages while still tolerating the exploitation of women in our phone books.
