The other day, SY caught me brushing my teeth."Don't you rinse your mouth after you brush?" she asked.
"Nah, why bother..." I replied. She looked at me incredulously.
"What about all that toothpaste? You swallow it?"
"No! Of course not! I spit it out."
"But you don't rinse."
"Right. What's the point? All the toothpaste is out, I wipe my mouth off, and I'm done. Is that bad?"
"But everyone else does."
"No way. Everyone?" I couldn't believe it.
"Yes. Everyone. Ask around and see for yourself."
So I did. I asked about five different people and the conversation went just about the same. No one could believe that I don't rinse my mouth after brushing my teeth.
"You swallow the toothpaste?!?
"No! I spit it out!"
After the fifth person, I gave up. Apparently I was the only person I knew of that didn't rinse out their mouth. I guess it makes sense -- you rinse your hair after you wash it; you rinse you hands when you wash them...
Wow - the things you learn from being married....

I used to rinse, because that's how I was taught as a kid, but when I was in college... well I didn't brush... BUT, after that with insurance and a great dental plan, I learned that when you use floridated toothpaste, rinsing your mouth just washes the floride away.
