Yesterday my mom called and said Kelly gave birth to a baby boy, Grayson Timothy. He’s about a week early, by because she got so big they brought her in on Monday and induced her. There were still complications, though – something about a tilted cervix, the baby coming out shoulder first, and the umbilical cord being wrapped around – so they gave her a C-section. It makes me grateful for modern science – a couple hundred years ago she would have either had to suffer an excruciating birth or we’d have lost both her and the baby.

It makes me grateful for modern science – a couple hundred years ago she would have either had to suffer an excruciating birth or we’d have lost both her and the baby.I called her this morning (Thursday) and talked for a bit. She’s happy with that, because she can do lots of things without too much pain; she said she feels like she’s been through a hard workout (though I think that’s still an understatement). I teased her about liking the name so much that when I have a baby I’ll give it the same name; at 31 years old I’m still trying to irritate my sister. She laughed, and said if I do that she’ll give my name to the next one, especially if it’s a girl. At 28, she’s doing the same.
I spoke with my grandfather this morning, too; the baby was born on his birthday (maybe just a day different or something, but who’s counting) and he felt being a great-grandfather was a great present. He couldn’t really talk that well because he’d had five teeth removed due to broken caps or something. Rather than replacing the caps he told them to just pull the teeth; he said his false teeth will be a few months coming, so I don’t really understand his logic there, that said he’ll be fine without steak for a while.
My mom said I can check out the picture online, so I’ll see if I can do that and host here also as a more permanent thing. Yay! I’m an uncle. 啊!我是舅舅!
