Today was the consulate's annual Government Appreciation Dinner. We hosted a number of Chinese government officials as a gesture of gratitude for the friendly relations we enjoy with our partners (remember, this is the Commerce Department).
I sat with my boss and ten of the top managers for the organizations we work with on the American Trading Center initiative. Unfortunately, only two of the guests at our table spoke English comfortably, leaving me out of most conversations. Another spoke Korean well, but even in that language he was far better than me. Needless to say, I was nervous the whole time.
