As I posted earlier, in an SCP we arrange for a conference room for a U.S. company to present their product or service. We send invitations to appropriate potentially interested parties, do the requisite follow-up, and lend the reputation of the U.S. Government (this is particularly important in China, where guanxi rules).
The company pays for these services (including any catering), but the Commercial Service does the reservations -- the kind of work that would be really difficult for anyone unfamiliar with Shanghai.
The Westin was a really cool hotel, too. I took a couple of pictures, but these don't do justice to either the interior or overall beauty of the architecture.
