I found out on Monday that I had to pass a physical test in order to qualify for Army Officer Candidate School -- 13 push-ups, 17 sit-ups, and running a mile in less than 8’30”.
Since I didn’t bring any exercise clothes when I came to Korea, SY had to do a little shopping for some running shoes and a training suit (it’s the middle of winter). The two other OCS applicants and I were able to use the recruiter’s office for the push-ups and sit-ups, but for the mile run we had to the outdoor 200m track.
While the first two steps went well, my mile time was 9’12”. I’ll chock up to a combination of cold weather and pure flabbiness (I haven’t run a mile in about six years.)
My only consolation is that the other two candidates also failed their run times. We’ll have another chance on Wednesday.
