Fun day. Good breakfast – finished everything, though we had to wait in line for about 45 minutes. Cleaned the bay. I got a special duty today – spray painting roster numbers on the weapons cleaning kits. Not super exciting in itself, but the chance to do something different was cool. At lunch, I got to eat first because I was going to the 1:30 church service. Later, I wrote to my mother and brother.
Church was OK, but as a “contemporary Christian service” there’s too much “pray Jesus into your heart” stuff. It plays well to the basic training crowd because we’re so transient, but I don’t think the lessons we get really “stick.”
Came back and did yard work – excuse me, “area beautification.” I mowed the lawn a bit, and later did CQ duty at the battalion office. I don’t know what CQ stands for, but it’s basically sitting around, doing nothing but making sure the building doesn’t burn down. That was interesting because they had newspapers there – I got fleeting glimpse of what’s going on outside the plastic hamster ball that is the basic training experience.
