I did well on the ruck – I fell behind a few spots but stayed within my squad. The whole thing took 3 hours, 50 minutes with all the breaks. Then we had the “cold steel” ceremony, which was kind of cool considering that it meant we’d completed all the requirement to finish BCT.
I was completely soaked with sweat by that time – not a square inch of my uniform was dry. Even my belt was completely drenched. At the end, we got our U.S. pins. It was surreal, too, because DS B said, “Congratulations, OCS” and shook my hand. We then showered, shaved, and slept for an hour and a half until 7:00.
For breakfast, we got a special treat – steak and eggs w/salsa, biscuit, French toast, 2 apple wedges & 2 PB packets, miniwheats, and oatmeal w/raisins. I was so full…. After this we had out drill sergeant roast. Some guys were really funny.
The lunch menu wasn’t so appetizing – chitlins, pork knuckle, and ribs – so I went to the sandwich line for the first time. I made a ham and turkey sandwich on wheat with mustard, then got salad, Ruffles chips, 2 glasses of powerade, 2 apple wedges, and a glass of choco. I wasn’t super hungry, so it took a while, and I appreciate that there wasn’t a lot of “policing.”
In the afternoon, we cleaned up, but at a snail’s pace. The word is that we’ll get a PX visit rather than a rip-off concert on Saturday – that’s much better in my opinion anyway. I don’t need a concert at this point.
For dinner I had fried chicken, rice, cabbage, and a small salad. We cleaned weapons, and then GOT MILKSHAKES! YES! I got the Reese’s flavor. For $3.60, I wouldn’t have gotten it normally, but it’s worth it now.
I got a letter from my grandfather with stuff about the Berlin Airlift. I was looking at my Leave and Earning Statement – they’re still deducting for the Montgomery G.I. Bill. Grr.
