NTC Day 10

Yesterday I gave the battalion commander the first "mission brief." It was pretty stressful, especially considering I was expecting to give a convoy brief and the majors on battalion staff intended for something significantly different.

It just got silly, though, because as soon as I was finished with that, I did the convoy brief for the people who were on the mission. It made me wonder what the purpose was for the first one,

There was no shortage of sitting around time afterward, since our mission didn't start until 0100. Even so, it was a total mess. The cargo trucks for which we were providing escorts were late, which rippled on down through the rest of the timeline.

Then the destination point of contact was nowhere to be found. Fortunately, for every refrigerated truck we dropped off, we were able to retrograde another because they were all unlocked and the keys were left in the ignition. Not exactly good security, but it made our job easier.

We got back and finished everything by 1000. I'm kind of bummed, though -- the only place open for lunch during the weekend is the shoppette, and I wasn't interesting in just munching on snacks.

It dawned on me today that I'm really going to miss my family when I deploy. :-(
