Today's events did not reflect well on my leadership. I didn't coordinate who would actually go on the live fire exercises, so my platoon sergeant kept the same crews as yesterday, leaving me out. I didn't find out about this until the last minute, and I didn't want to mess with the gun truck crews, so I stayed behind at the camp while everyone else participated.
Not a good move for a platoon leader.
We got back in the late evening -- after chow had finished -- but they had kept out containers for us. That was nice.
It underscored an important difference between us and the guys in the field: I should be grateful for the simple luxuries available on the main base. There was another unit at that FOB that had been out there for five days, though the plan had been only for one.
How miserable for them....
