Today I took a time out, checked the kids into day care for a few hours, and watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One.
I enjoyed it. The one part I most anticipated was when Ron had to overcome his fears and insecurities to destroy the horcrux, and it came across well. I'd have liked to see Dudley thank Harry (like in the book), but I understand why the director did the beginning the way it was.
There weren't many people there, but those that did show up didn't seem to "get it." One pair of guys, for example, didn't like the amount of dialogue. Another one complained that there wasn't a happy ending.
I said to him, "You did know this was a 'part one,' right?" and didn't wait for an answer. I'm gonna guess he didn't read the book.
I mean, c'mon, man, it's a *HARRY POTTER* movie. In every installment so far they've talked about his parents dying and some evil wizard trying to kill him, too. Did you really expect a happy ending? And in the middle of a two-part finale? Get real.
Then there's the level of dialogue issue. Not much I can say there, except that it's just plain not an action movie -- it's adapted from a book, and a sizeable one at that. You can imagine the amount of dialogue they had to cut from the book just to get it to movie length.
Or maybe they can't....
With all the talk in the movie about Harry being the "chosen one," I thought it would be cool to make a Harry Potter video from clips of the movies and the Mortal Kombat theme song.
Fortunately, somebody beat me to it, saving me countless hours.
Thanks for that.
