Day 4 - Safe arrival

Today we completed our trip to Fort Lee.  Since we arrived late yesterday, I decided to leave a bit later this morning; even so, we left later than I'd planned. The drive up from Greensboro, NC, was only 3.5 hours, but we stopped for about an hour in the middle to get the cars weighed.

The first car was pretty easy -- just pull up to the scale, reach up and push the "Call" button (they design these things for tractor-trailers), and then park and get the certification. Doing the second car and the U-Haul truck was more complicated, though -- I had to weigh them separately. Here's how it worked.
  1. Untie the car and pull it off the trailer.
  2. Untie the trailer
  3. Weigh the truck
  4. Park it and put the trailer back on
  5. Weigh the car
  6. Put the car back on the trailer and tie it down.
The part I worried about the most was getting the car back on the trailer by myself. I asked SY to stay inside with the kids so they'd be safe, but it left me to do all the car maneuvering by myself.

Fortunately, it all worked out OK. Though I haven't weighted the truck empty, it looks like we got about 800 pounds just between the two cars. That's not too shabby.

After we got settled, I signed in on post. This will end my leave, but -- being a weekend -- I won't have to go in until Monday. Ideally, I can sign out for "Permissive TDY" Monday morning and I get the maximum 10 days before class starts.

Tomorrow, I'll start unloading the truck.
