We started a bit early this morning -- 7:30 -- in order to finish as much as we could early on.
Very educational stuff. First, we learned about the differences among the infantry, stryker, and heavy brigade combat teams. Then we looked at the relics of the previous system: the functional brigades.
After that, we learned about the doctrinal different relationships between units, and what OPCON, TACON, and Direct Support mean according to Field Manual 5-0. This was very enlightening considering my experience with the Australians back in September 2011. Looking back, I doubt the battalion we fell under had any clue what these terms meant.
In the afternoon, our SGL (teacher) treated us to a round of bowling at the on-post bowling alley (we just had to rent our shoes). Good fun -- I scored a 99, which is one point shy of my "good game" threshold -- and we all got to see our Cambodian classmate bowl for the first time.
