CLC3 Day 42: Ruck march

I woke up at 3:30 this morning and headed off to the Petersburg National Battlefield for the ruck march. At a minimum, you have to do 6km in one hour for the bronze award. Nine kilometers in 90 minutes qualifies you for the silver, or you can go the full measure and do 12km (7.5 miles) in two hours for the gold.

Although, at 1:54:45, I was the last guy to come in, I did it!  It cost me three pounds of sweat (true -- I weighed myself when I got home), but I'll qualify for the gold badge once I finish the other events.  There will be some retesting next week, and the award ceremony on Friday.

The first person to finish came in at something like 1:10 -- a superhuman time. He not only ran the whole way carrying a 33 pound on his back, he ran it at a sub-ten-minute-mile pace.  I had to run a lot of the way, too, since my natural walking pace isn't fast enough, but that amazed me.

The Air Assault requirement is 12 miles in three hours -- if I ever get picked for that course I'll have some work to do.

In class we finished up our Transportation Infrastructure Analysis presentation and got out about 3:00.
