Day Trip to the Outer Banks
After we came back from New York City, we still had one more four-day weekend before class started again. This time, we headed south to the Outer Banks.
It took about three hours to reach Kitty Hawk, so our first stop was for lunch at a diner called "Henry's."
From there we made a quick stop to see the ocean.
To get a better view, houses a few blocks from the shore have decks on their roofs. This one had not only a great view, but a pool right next to the ocean.
From there we visited Roanoke Island, the site of the first English attempt at building a New World colony.
History says that the colony was lost after running out of food, leaving only the word "Croatoan" carved on a tree, but to me it seemed like it's been doing pretty well.
As our final stop, we visited the Bodie Island Lighthouse. You can't climb up (yet), so we just got some books from the gift shop and headed home.
