The trip back from New York was supposed to be just seven hours of driving, but there was a fatal accident on the New Jersey Turnpike that diverted all three southbound lanes off a one-lane exit. [Source]
We got stuck before we realized what was happening, and it took two hours to go seven miles to the exit.
Then, just outside Washington, D.C., there was another fatal accident we drove by on the I-495 ramp [Source]. Pretty somber ride.
The high point -- for me -- was stopping at the Marlow-White retail store along the way.
They have some pretty esoteric uniform items like capes and swords, but all I needed was a service cap. Nothing fancy.
With all the delays and stops, the trip took about 12 hours, but at least we made it home safely.
