Day trip to Manhattan
It would have been a shame to visit New York City and not see the World Trade Center site, so we took a day and toured Manhattan. We started by driving down to Liberty Park and took the ferry across the Hudson River. Because of Hurricane Sandy, the Statue of Liberty has been closed, but I at least got a picture from the shore.
We then walked over the the site of the memorial. I didn't realize that passes have to be requested in advance, and of course the line was long, so I had to content myself with these pictures.
We then set off to get lunch at a place called "Petite Abeille," a place I first heard about on the Travel Channel [Source]. Though it was originally covered for its waffles, I was more interested in the "moules et frites" (mussels and fries).
Afterward, we took the subway over to the southeat corner of Central Park, where we found FAO Schwartz. Of course, being the day after Christmas, it was very busy.
When we came out, it was snowing pretty heavily, so we figured it was a good time to leave. It was pretty cold by that point, and the kids were really tired, but they did really well. I don't recommend visiting New York city in the winter, but we had a great "adventure" just the same.
