This morning we started off at 9:00 and sat through a briefing on the Theater Logistics Planners Program (TLOG). Pretty interesting, but after 18 weeks of CLCCC, the last thing any of us wants to think about is another 19 week program.
The sell wasn't all that convincing, either -- according to the brochure, two of the things TLOG graduates can do are "Recognize and effectively solve problems," and "Demonstrate viable staff skills expected of a member of a general officer's staff."
To the cynical ones among us, that second one is Army code for: "PowerPoint." Hardly a big draw, even for logisticians. Aside from the P1 additional skill identifier (ASI) and the chance to continue and get a Master's degree afterward, I'm not really sure what other benefits there are.
Of course, the Army wins from the deal -- at the very least, they get majors who can perform on division and corps level staff. And if TLOG students continue on for the Master's, it doesn't come out of the Army's pocket. Pretty good deal...
During lunch, I spoke to one of the BOLC classes for an hour about what to expect at their first assignment, and then I was done for the day.
Aftward, SY and I drove our cars down to Portsmouth to drop off our car for shipment. Unfortunately -- and this is a bit embarrassing for a logistician -- we didn't get there in time for the last check-in of the day at 3:30.
Rather than drive all the way back for a total loss, I left the car in the shopping mall parking lot across the street -- I'll go back by myself in a day or two to check it in. (Hopefully it's still there....)
