Army "nail house"
In China, when homeowners hold out against developers, their properties are called "nail houses" (钉子户, dīngzihù). Like nails stuck in a board, they'll neither come out nor get hammered down.
In a sense, my battalion is in the same situation, though not of our own choice. The other day, we got to watch as contractors started to demolish the buildings around us in preparation for the new on-post hospital.
We'd have vacated long ago, too, but for the fact we haven't had anywhere to go -- we're still waiting for our next building to clear out.
