I got you, general

Last week the commanding general came in for our new battalion commander's assumption of command ceremony. Because I'm a mature individual and -- I guess -- mildly competent, the boss tasked me and a driver to escort him and his aide for the day.

As is common for gentlemen of his rank, the general is a very personable guy. He's very interested in people's lives, and how things are for them. In the course of the conversation, it came up that I hope for a company command during my time in Korea.

"I hope that works out for you," he said, and I seized my chance.

"Thank you, sir. I'll be sure to tell *every* colonel I meet that you said that," I immediately replied.

He started to backpedal, "Now wait, don't go dropping my name or anything...."

But I got him. :-)
