No excuse for apathy toward UH football
Compared to Mainland schools, the University of Hawai`i lacks a great deal of school spirit, especially when it comes to football games.
In spite of the many reasonable explanations for this, the fact remains we have no life. At football games, it seems no one except the band members know the words to the fight song., and hardly anyone can recite the lyrics of the alma mater.
To fix this problem, we need to raise campus awareness and enthusiasm. This can accomplished rather easily with a bit of creativity.
As a first step, we ought to leave the balloon helmet (the one football players run through) near Campus Center on game days. Students walking by would be reminded that there was a game schedule for that night.
Secondly, parking on upper campus should be free. This would give many drivers an opportunity to avoid highway traffic and would give many a reason to come early and watch the warm-ups.
By supporting our football team, we show that we're not just another generation of uninterested, apathetic students who can find nothing else to do but waste our Friday nights.
