School attacks racism with civil rights history

`Iao Intermediate School should be lauded for incorporating civil rights education into its eighth grade curriculum.

The school, which is the subject of a federal probe into racial harassment of an African-American student, is currently introducing a video on the history of the civil rights movement, as well as a written history.

It seems `Iao Intermediate School has proactively attacked its problem in a way that will prevent racist behavior before it becomes habitual.

Promoting tolerance is a key step in eliminating racism from America's schools. The incorporation of such materials into school curricula should prove to be an effective means of accomplishing this goal.

It is also necessary to tackle and defeat these issues at an equally early age.

`Iao has taken appropriate measures to prevent further racial discrimination. Its decisiveness and willingness to act on this subject are commendable, yet now we must spread this idea to every one of the schools in the state.
